Helsinki Twilight 1984

This movie will be shown at Klubi, Tampere today! The director Pete Europa and one of the actors, Jann Wilde, will be at the screening to answer questions and talk about the background of the movie.

"The documentary film Helsinki Twilight 1984 (Timanttikoirien vuosi 1984) takes us back in time into the fascinating period of time between the years 1979 - 1985, when Helsinki, and the rest of Finland moved towards an increasingly diverse and free social climate, pioneering beautiful boys in makeup and fancy girls.

During this time, the new street-level phenomena such as small magazines, pirate radio and independent fashion began to blend into the society – new clubs were set up, new art forms were born - and finally people felt they were works of art themselves.

Helsinki was like Berlin between the wars for a period that lasted for no longer than a blink. It was full of ideas, encounters between different groups of people and 24h partying with the Cold War and what George Orwell's 1984 had described hovering on the background.

Dark, deep shades, ominous music, 'pale boys', vampires and other creatures of the night represented a world of a new human being; New Romantics, new Gothic - new vision. Representing the birth of the European, international, and ultimately universal people.

Eclipse inspired make up

I went to see Eclipse today with my sister Janika. I was kind of excited, but on the other hand I didn't want to expect anything of it. Eclipse has always been my favourite out of the Twilight saga books, I was hoping that the movie wouldn't disappoint me too badly. (Love Janika's pink leggins!)

The movie was actually pretty good! The best out of the Twilight movies too.

There was few things I'd have done differently though:
-The part where they were in the tent and Jacob and Edward were talking, that should have lasted longer in the movie.. It's one of my favourite parts.
- Jacob & Bella's  kiss didn't last long enough in the movie!
- At the end I'd have wanted Bella to tell Jacob how she told him in the book too; that the worst part of it all was that Bella saw it all in her mind, her & Jacob's life, what could it be if she chose Jacob instead of Edward. -Also, Edward is soooo annoying when he doesn't let Bella meet Jacob in the book and I'd have wanted to see more of that in the movie too.

Otherwise the movie was great! Not perfect, but no movie based on book could ever be perfect.

Of course there's one little thing that I'd change of the end of the book too. I'd want Bella to choose Jacob instead of Edward. I can't understand how could she say no to this brown-eyed handsome hot guy and want to spend rest of her life with some ice cold annoying vampire with ugly sideburns and very thick eyebrows! Are you wondering if I'm "team Edward" or "team Jacob" ? lol!

So.. When we got home, I decided to create some kind of Eclipse inspired make up look. I'm not extremely happy with this look.. I did it in less than 10 minutes without even knowing what to do, I had no specific idea in my mind, I just started playing with the colours I chose.

Worried About The Boy make up

I really enjoyed watching this drama about Boy George's early life before Culture Club and the stardom. I loved the make up, costumes and the music! Douglas Booth was stunning as George! As soon as I saw this movie, I also knew I want to try out some of the make up looks. This is the look I tried out today.

I didn't make yellow face though.. And I wanted to use brighter pink blush. But here's how my version turned out.

movie weekend

The last weekend was so unusual! Normally I spend the weekend mostly at home, resting and relaxing but now there was only few hours when I was there!

On Friday, my classmate and I went to the movies, to see Avatar. Even though I don't usually like watching any scifi/fantasy movies, I liked this one! And the 3D classes were cool too.. Hahah.

No buses went to Nokia after the movie, because it ended so late. So I stayed the night at my classmate's house.

On Saturday, I went home to take a shower and get ready. And soon had to go back to Tampere. It was a beautiful day, I could even see the sun! And the blue sky.. It was nice as the sky has been white/grey for so long!

I was wondering what to wear.. It has to be something comfortable because we were going to watch movies for hours. At home I'm always wearing my mum's old shirt which is a tunic for me.. But I couldn't wear it anywhere else than home because it doesn't look as good as it feels! It looks like what it is.. A far too big and wide shirt! Well, I found a solution.. I disguised my home tunic with a waistcoat that I haven't realised to wear before! Now I could wear my most comfortable tunic without it looking too big for me..

09VO1B Saw marathon! We went to watch all 5 Saw movies at my another classmates house, and stayed the night there.  There was supposed to be almost everyone from my class but some of the cancelled so there wasn't so many of us.. Anyway, we had so much fun! This was actually the first time when I saw any of my classmates anywhere else than at school! The movies were good too..

I went to the library today. I was meant just go and return the film I borrowed two weeks ago (Naked Civil Servant) and check if someone has returned the book I've been waiting for weeks, Tainted Life.. But no, it's not returned yet even though it should have been already on Tuesday!

But it doesn't matter.. I can wait. And I found something else, very fascinating!

Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD. I've wanted to see it since I watched a video, Sweet Transvestite, that my friend Siz linked on her blog post. I can't ever resist transvestites.. Hahah.

Quentin Crisp & Donald Carroll - Doing It With Style. Unfortunately this book is translated into finnish though.. I always prefer reading books in their original language.

And last but definitely not least...

Dave Rimmer - New Romantics: The Look. I'm so excited about this book, I've always been very interested in new romantics! I love them.. The clothes, the make up, the hair, the music.. The everything! And this book contains lots of pictures too..

+ I still have four Soft Cell and Marc Almond albums I borrowed from library a week or two ago. I love libraries.. Because of them I can read, watch and listen to stuff I couldn't afford otherwise. Well, someday I'll buy all albums and books and films I want but as a student without a job I can't afford so.. I use libraries.

Naked Civil Servant

On Saturday night I watched the film Naked Civil Servant. It's based on Quentin Crisp's autobiography, which is also called, surprisingly, Naked Civil Servant. I have the book too, my mum bought it for me last summer. But for some reason, I had difficulties when I was trying to read it. Maybe I just could't concentrate.. or there were used too many unfamiliar words.. or maybe it was just a too strange experience for me, to read something I haven't ever read before, as I'm always reading the same books over and over again. I was so frustrated because I couldn't understand everything of this book, so I stopped reading and I still haven't read it till the end..

Anyway, I borrowed the film from a library. I couldn't find it at first, because all the films are in alphaphetical order there and I was looking for it under 'N'.. Naked Civil Servant. It didn't occur to me that I should be looking under 'P', I had no idea that the film has a finnish name too. Anyway.. I finally found and borrowed it. When I got home, the first thing I wanted to do was to check if the film is black-and-white! But yeah, it's a coloured film despite the video tape looking so old.

 I really liked the film! I admire Quentin Crisp. He seemed to be a very interesting man. And it wasn't easy to be an effeminate gay in those times.. But he was who he was, no matter what people thought about it!
