Take It Like A Man

The autobiography of Boy George. I just finished reading it. Again. I've read it countless times since I bought it in 2007.

But I never get bored with it! There's always something new to me.. Each time I've read it, has been different from the others. I'm always thinking like "hey, this wasn't here last time!"

My ability to read english has improved a lot since 2007. I don't have to check every word from a dictionary anymore. Reading with a dictionary used to be so frustatingly slow!

When I've read the book for the few first times, I had no idea who are people like Marilyn, Steve Strange, David Bowie and others.. For me, they were just characters in the book. But later on I've found out more about them, I've been listening to David Bowie and Visage.. And I used to be friends with Marilyn on youtube.. So what I meant to say is, that knowing who George is talking about in the book, it makes the reading experience different too.

Yeah. I just absolutely love this book! ♥

  1. :) I'm proud of you :D
and yeH I'm sure it is a difference when you know whom he's writing about ^^...
I've never tried reading an englishbook where I had to use a dictonary ... I think I would be too frustrated not understanding what the author is writing about :D so I'm really proud of you :D *thumps up*

  2. It wasn't until after buying this book when I realised that I really want to learn english, I'll need it in my life.. Before that, I used to be sitting in the english lessons without bothering to really study, I wasn't interested..
It really was frustrating to read with a dictionary then.. But I had to do it, I had no options! Because I really wanted to read the book and it's not translated into finnish..
Have you ever read Take It Like A Man? =)

  3. no I don't have the book but I'm really interested in ^^ .. btw Take it like a Man isn't translated into any other language ^^ I've only seen it in english on amazon or ebay.. but since I don't use both of them I don't have it =/
but I'm sure it is very interesting! :D

  4. I'm glad it's not translated.. If it was translated into finnish, I probably wouldn't have bought in it english then and who knows if I would be able to speak english at all then. :'D I bought it from bookplus.fi .. But it seems like it's not available there anymore.. And other finnish site where I've seen it, adlibris.com , it seems to be out of stock there too. Just like Pete Burns' autobiography Freak Unique. Luckily I bought them both when they still were available in those sites.. Because I couldn't order from amazon or ebay either. Hope you get the book someday! =) It really is interesting..

  5. I keep my eyes open ;D wide open! ^^ perhaps when I go to town.. I could take a look into that store where I was able to get really old books :D they also could order "waking up with the house on fire" :D I'm glad they could ^^ they were my last chance to get that CD :P so I could go there.. I really should read that ^^

my last english book was Harry Potter and the deathly hollows... xD actually I do have the german version at home 2 'cause I pre-ordered it.. but when I was in store and there was this english version I had to buy it ^^ so I never read my german version of it :P

  6. Nice :D Hopefully you'll get the book from there =) Today my school friend said that _if I give her money she could order me some stuff from evay! As I can't order anything from there and I told her that there's things I want to get, CD's, books, DVD's.. that I can't get from anywhere. But well, I can't ask her to order anything in the near future.. N-ot before I've got a job or something :D

I haven't even read Harry Potter books in english, but I've heard they're better than translations. As the books usually are.. lol. Most of my books are in english.. Only finnish books that are in my bookshelf are HIM and Popeda, sewing and photography books. Others are english :D

  7. haven't you asked at stores if they could order those things 4 you?... ^^ I'm sure you'll find a store.. :D I mean why shouldn't you be able to get those things? ^^ it isn't the way it is with that fin.dic I wanted ;D

I can't judge xD somehow I only read the last one in english.. but I thought that I could buy the others in english too 'cause it is really good to understand and not too difficult :D
xD I do have so many german books.. well at least we had to buy some for the german lessons.. ^^ in school

  8. I have asked from one store where they announced in their website that if you couldn't find the album you were looking for, you could ask if they could get it for you. But they couldn't give me what I want =( But.. When I'll have money, my friend promised to order things for me from sites I can't order from =)

I don't know how good are translations into german but when I read a book translated into finnish.. It's just so unnatural.. I prefer to read the books in their original language =)

  9. well that's good that your friend helps you :D
because else you wouldn't get those things.. like I sometimes don't get them =/

well actually the translations aren't bad... but not always that good.. I haven't found a book yet which did seem unnatural to me.. :D perhaps I was just lucky ;D

  10. I hope we both get everything we want someday =)

Maybe it's just the language... I don't like finnish and especially when the books are written the way I don't speak, it seems so unnatural... I prefer reading in english =))
